The final days

NDC in Newbury
There were several initiatives that the Diesel Company resorted to in order to keep the business afloat but with the best will in the world, it was not enough.

As a repair and maintenance business, the company undertook the overhaul of two engines for the Red Funnel hydrofoil "Shearwater".
The engines were Fiat Carraro engines and the photographs show Dick Smith and Dave Cummings at work.
The engines were tested on completion of the overhaul in the sound proofed both erected for the ill fated "T" type engine.

Although it seems a little strange for a diesel engineering company, an amount of effort went into.......

!!! THE CAR WASH. !!!

Not sure if it went into production or even if any were sold but it must be remebered that at that time it was a new type of product and there was an emerging marketplace.
Two versions pictured here, the mini risking all was owned by Tony Smith who provided the pictures on this page.

Empty and waiting for Mr Sainsbury to make a bid for the location.
